Managing Performance The Art of Effective Performance Development
Target Audience:
Managers and Supervisors
Key Objective:

At the completion of the program participants should be able to:

  • Identify the link between leadership behaviour and building performance-based compliant cultures.
  • Understand the importance of creating a team culture that is perceived to be fair and even handed to help facilitate effective management of non-performance and allegations of harassment and bullying.
  • Identify observable behaviours and cultural attributes indicative of non-compliance (to bullying and harassment related laws).
  • Implement strategies that respond to observed behaviours that contravene, or potentially contravene the organisational policies and processes related to workplace bullying and harassment.
  • Understand their role as leaders in the everyday management and prevention of unlawful discrimination and bullying in the workplace. In particular the importance of: How they act everyday as leaders (role modelling).

  • • How they respond to inappropriate behaviours they observe.
    • How they deal with issues that are brought to them.
    • How they demonstrate support and commitment for the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Understand the link between poor handling of performance issues and allegations of bullying and harassment.
  • Understand the requirements related to documentation and recording of non-performance matters.
  • Understand the importance of maintaining consistency between all elements of the performance management process, for example not providing positive feedback in a performance feedback session when the organisation should actually be managing that individual in relation to an issue of poor performance.
  • Implement positive and lawful strategies to deal with performance related issues including coaching, support and one-on-one feedback.
Learning Outcomes:

At the conclusion of this program, participants should:

  • Understand management styles and their impact on the business.
  • Understand the legal framework related to employment.
  • Understand the concept of vicarious liability and how it relates to the everyday conduct of a manager. This includes OHS, EEO and anti-bullying.
  • Be able to handle dispute resolution and follow appropriate grievance procedures.
  • Achieve great performance with individuals and teams.
  • Manage performance and non-performance effectively.
  • Understand EEO and anti-bullying resolution processes.
  • Understand the importance of effective relationships in preventing workplace issues.
  • Understanding the importance of role-modelling.
  • The importance of achieving optimum performance of employees through the provision of direction and 'personal motivators' such as careers structure, reward and recognition, and ongoing feedback.
  • Understand considerations for attracting and retaining talent
